I joined the Chicks after being part of an issue at a rendezvous event that I had attended. I've never been so inspired and learned so much from such a great group of women and I continue to want to grow even more. I see so many unsafe things in the canyons that I wish I could empower every woman canyoneer to join us and learn to break that trend!

I discovered the Canyoning Chicks after a close call experience in a canyon. The Chicks helped me grow into a knowledgable cannoneer. They also motivated me to further my education so that I could help pass along the knowledge and grow the community of awesome, independent female canyoneers.
The Leadership Training Program Objectives
Leadership Program Mission
This leadership program will help Canyoning Chicks Coalition expand its reach, maintain consistent quality across states, and develop a network of skilled instructors and leaders to grow the organization and sport safely and responsibly.
Program Structure
- Develop a standardized curriculum for canyoning leadership and instruction
- Create tiered certification levels (e.g., Assistant Instructor, Lead Instructor, Master Instructor)
Training Components
- Technical skills: rope work, rappelling, swift water rescue
- Risk management and decision-making
- Group dynamics and leadership
- Environmental stewardship and Leave No Trace principles
Mentorship Program
- Pair experienced instructors with trainees
- Provide supervised teaching opportunities
Regional Hubs
- Establish training centers in key canyoning areas across different state
- Partner with other outdoor organizations and guide services
Online Resources
- Develop a digital platform for instructor course materials and continuing education
- Create a community forum for instructors to share experiences and best practices
Certification Process
- Implement skills assessments and written exams
- Require logged teaching hours and field experience
